Hola, Buena Gente.
Rene from YumaYork.NYC writing to you from right here:
My desk/office/studio in our quaint little apartment in the Heights. First time I’ve sat down to do work in daaaays because COVID has been keeping us (Natalie and I) pretty busy. Sleeping and watching movies. Feeling like wet espagettis.
Anyways, this dispatch/newsletter is something I’ve been trying to get going for a while. You’ve been included because you opted in for emails from us when you purchased something on our online tiendita.
But, te prometo, we won’t be spamming you regularly!
Pero, like, what’s the point?
¿Pero Why?
What will you be getting by staying on the dispatch list?
Simple.
Un poquito de todo. A lil’bit of all the bits that make up the YumaYork bit of our life. Upcoming Events; Upcoming Releases (Prints and Merch); Early Access to the latter; Projects; Sketches; things we’ve been listening to; watching; things that have been happening in our lovely part of NYC; etc.
¿Ta’ bien? Here we go then, there’s a lot to announce ……..
*NuevaYork,NuevaYork*
Here’s a really exciting announcement that we’re making to you all first. We made our own version of the tee’s that Anthropologie released with our design!
Just for clarity, y para que mami no se asuste: this is totally ok. As an illustrator, when a company uses one of your illustrations they traditionally buy a license to use the illustration for the intended purpose. The image/art continues to be the artists/illustrators property. Once that license ends you can even use that image the same way the company previously used it. All that to say, we made our own and we’re selling them cheaper than Anthropologie. Very limited amount just to test the waters and you all have first dibs. They were all screen printed by hand here in Washington Heights by Peligro Sports on Gildan 100% Heavy Cotton tees. There are a few of each size, some womens sizes and very few in an alternate color, “Natural,” which you can see below.
Here’s a link for you to get yours before I announce to the public! I’ll throw in some stickers, too.
*Heights Perspective Collective Reception*
Some of you might remember this little collective that set up a show at Buunni Coffee inwood earlier this year. We’ve actually had our work up at Recirculation for a couple of months now and we’ll be hosting an intimate little reception with light refreshments this coming Saturday, Nov. 19, at 6 pm. You can register for the event here. There’s a suggested donation, since Recirculation is a non-profit organization, but it’s not mandatory. If you’ve never been, I suggest you check this shop out. And check out the other artists incredible work: Francis Hseuh, Sara Poleman, Suzanne Russo, and Jerise Fogel.
*so hard to CHOOSE*
We’ve teamed up with this new, beautiful app hailing from France that just launched stateside, CHOOSE, to sell a few of our prints at a discount for a 15 day period starting Nov 17th. Not only that, they’ve let us share code, BONJOUR , that gives you all $30 off your first purchase of anything on the app! Check the app out!
¿eso es todo?….
Here’s a sketch of my sis, that I did last month while she visited, on the A between the 125th and 59th stop.
I try to start and finish a sketch between those two stops as a personal challenge. It’s like 7 min between those stops.
And lastly, “you asked about the cows wearing my sweater” is a lyric that has been on repeat in my head for over two weeks now. I originally pictured someone asking the singer about cows that were wearing sweaters that belonged to said singer. But I’m starting to have my doubts. pretty song, regardless of who’s wearing the sweater.
Thank you for tranquilizándome hijo. Didn’t want to have to post bail
Look forward to reading all your announcements and seeing your new prints
💕Mom
